Head Honcho’s CFB Power Rankings-Week 7

After an unbelievable week of CFB I think we are down to less than 10 teams that can truly win the National Championship this year. Georgia is fucking toast after a home loss to South Carolina, and that loss for the Bulldogs pretty much eliminated Notre Dame as well. Then Texas was eliminated after losing in the Red River Shootout while Florida might have fucked themselves by not keeping the game closer than 14 points. All I know is every fucking game matters from here on out and no opponent can be taken lightly!

*Last week’s ranking in parentheses*

-Alabama (1)-They went on the road for their first “test” of the season and dominated the Aggies. I don’t think the Aggies are all that good though either. All of their losses have been blowouts and two of them have come at home! I won’t say it’s a guarantee, but Alabama has to be looking ahead to LSU because they have 2 fucking CUPCAKES over their next 2 weeks. The next 2 weeks have Alabama hosting Tennessee and Arkansas followed by a bye. The bye may be more difficult for the Tide to navigate than either of the other 2 opponents. Right now, the SEC is Alabama’s to lose as they are dominating everyone having scored at least 42 points in every single game.

-LSU (4)-What an impressive performance from Joe Burrow and the LSU offense. The WRs all made plays and they even got the ground game going. Saturday told me more about this offense than the Florida defense. This offense is right up there with OU for the best offense in the country. They are almost completely unstoppable if they get the run game going. They have a top 3 WR group in the nation and an offensive line that completely dominated the line of scrimmage this weekend. It was an extremely impressive performance but they cannot look forward to the Bama game yet. They still have to travel to Miss State and then back home against a good Auburn team before they can even think about the Tide.

-Ohio State (2)-Ohio State was able to watch all the madness from home this weekend but their issue was none of it happened in the Big 10. They have an extremely important road game this week at Northwestern followed by the marquee Big 10 match-up of the season against Wisconsin. Northwestern kinda blows and they have been wildly inconsistent all year, but their style of football may lead to a trap game for OSU. I don’t see it happening because OSU has been dominant all season long on offense and defense. OSU might have the toughest remaining schedule with Wisconsin, PSU, Michigan, and then the Big 10 championship game. They will probably need to finish undefeated to get into the playoff, but we will see how this shakes out.

-Oklahoma (5)-Nobody may have benefited more from Georgia’s loss than Oklahoma. As long Oklahoma wins out, they have the easiest path to the 4th playoff spot with the loser of LSU-Alabama likely to slip a bit. They pretty much embarrassed Texas this weekend with Ceedee Lamb inserting himself into the best WR in the country conversation. What was more impressive to me though was OU’s defense! They are fast as shit and Texas struggled to really put anything together all day. This looks like a team that may be able to compete with the SEC teams come playoff time. After beating their rival and with only 1 ranked game left on the schedule OU controls their own destiny at this point.

-Wisconsin (7)-The Badgers absolutely fucking dominated Michigan State this weekend and this might be the most for real team Wisconsin has ever had. Their defense is unreal, they have Jonathan Taylor, and they have a QB who perfectly manages games. With the way they play ball, the Badgers really only have 1 game left that will dictate how their season will play out. They HAVE TO go into Columbus and beat the Buckeyes to even be considered for the playoff. If they lose that game they are most likely done.  Using the Badger brand though, it is possible. The only way to beat OSU is to be able to run the ball and keep the offense off the field. There is a chance it actually happens.

-Clemson (8)-In a semi-impressive performance, Clemson dominated Florida St this week. It’s just what is expected from them in the ACC though with how trash the rest of the conference is. I know Louisville is coming a real high after beating WF on the road and they are not likely to replicate that against this defense, but this game should definitely at least be on the upset radar for this weekend. Lousiville can run the ball and this is the biggest game the Cardinals have had since Lamar Jackson left. If Clemson can convincingly win this game on the road it would go a long way in showing me that they will compete in the playoff.

-Penn State (11)-I am a HUGE James Franklin fan! He came into one of the worst situations a head coach could ever be in after the huge scandal there. All he did was slowly get them back on the map until they have now been real contenders for the last 2-3 years. Now he has them undefeated looking to beat another ranked team in Michigan this week, and there is no reason to not believe in him! Sean Clifford has been awesome, but how about this fucking defense! They are only giving up 8 PPG and the most points they have given up in a game was 13 to Buffalo in week 2! Add in the fact that this team is rallying behind one of their teammates who was insulted by a fan and PSU is a scary wildcard in the playoff picture.

-Florida (7)-For a team who was supposed to get blown out this week, Florida definitely held their own and I think they showed the country that they can play with the big boys this season. I think what fucked them this weekend was the defensive gameplan. They had no answer for a run game that hasn’t done shit all season long and they still got burnt by Burrow. When you have the DL play that the Gators do I would have liked to have seen press coverage from the CBs to give the DL an extra second or two to get to Burrow. With Georgia’s loss though, Florida still has a path to the playoff which obviously includes beating UGA at home in 3 weeks.

-Auburn (12)-Even after suffering a loss to Florida, Auburn is right in the thick of things in the SEC. They still have some games where they can make a huge impact against LSU and Alabama. I think we saw the worst of Bo Nix against Florida, which we all expected, but now I think he comes back better than he was before. He is a fucking stud and one bad game will do nothing but help him learn. They may not in either of those games, but watch for the Tigers to make LSU and Bama sweat it out down the stretch.

-Oregon (13)-The Ducks whooped the absolute shit out of Colorado on national television. Colorado had played some close games this year, but Oregon made them look like an FCS school. Herbert is getting better as the season goes on and the defense made Steven Montez look like a real fuckin chode. There is a very tiny path that gets the Ducks to the playoff, but they need a SHIT TON of help down the stretch.

-Georgia (3)-In what will likely go down as the biggest upset of the season, Georgia got exposed exactly like I said they might last week. When it came down to it, they have NO ONE to go to on the outside. They do not have a Jerry Jeudy or Justin Jefferson that can take over a game by catching everything thrown their way. This loss will be almost impossible to recover from unless every team in front of them loses before their conference championships.

-Notre Dame (9)-Almost as much as it hurt themselves, Georgia’s loss really hurt Notre Dame. There is almost no path to the playoff now for the Irish even if they win out in convincing fashion.

-Utah (14)-The Utes beat the shit out of Oregon State this weekend and are looking to keep pace with the Ducks in the Pac-12. They seem to be on a collision course for the Pac-12 Championship game.

-Boise State (16)-What kind of fucking moron am I to think that Jamie Newman and Wake were better than Hank Bachemeier and Boise. Hank for Heisman is going to be real thing in the next year or two.

-Cincinnati (18)-Cincy is getting no fucking love in any of the polls. Their only loss was on the road at OSU and they’re still getting fucked. The AAC seems to be on the CFB blacklist.

-Texas (10)-Texas probably had the most disappointing performance all season for me so far. They did not show up like I thought they would and got horribly outplayed. Oklahoma moved the ball at fucking will against them and now Texas may not even reach the BIG 12 Championship even though Sam said “We’re Back” after the bowl win last year.

-Arizona State (20)-Herm Edwards has completely turned this program around and they are ready to fucking compete in the Pac-12! A big win over WSU got them to 5-1 and ready for a huge matchup with Utah.

-Michigan (17)-It started off real nice for Michigan, until Illinois scored 25 straight and scared all Wolverine Nation into hiding. Only playing for 30 minutes against a team like OSU will get you blown the fuck out.

-Baylor (19)-They stayed undefeated, but not without some drama. In a game they really should have lost at home, the Bears pulled this one out of their asses for a 2OT win over TTU.

-SMU (22)-The easiest way for SMU to stay undefeated is to not play a game. Having the bye before what is probably their toughest test left might work in their favor. Temple comes to town in what will not be a huge AAC showdown.

-Minnesota (24)-The Gophers put a fucking whooping on Nebraska this weekend. Good teams are supposed to beat the shit out of bad teams and that is exactly what Minnesota is doing. Whooping the shit out of bad teams to stay undefeated!

-Temple (UR)-Temple has 2 wins over ranked opponents this year (ranked when they played each other), and they look for their third this week. They can move themselves right into the middle of the AAC battle with a win over undefeated SMU this week.

-Washington (UR)-They fucking destroyed Arizona this week. They dropped a 50 burger in a convincing win as they cling to life in the Pac-12.

-Appalachain State (UR)-The Mountaineers are most famous for one of the biggest upsets in sports history, but they need to now be recognized as a ranked FBS school! They are undefeated and will really have a chance to prove themselves in a couple weeks on the road against South Carolina.

-Missouri (UR)-Missouri’s only loss this season was an opening week loss to Wyoming. Kelly Bryant has the Tigers rolling and ready to pull some upsets in the SEC this year!

DROPPED FROM RANKINGS

Memphis, Iowa, Virginia

There are not any HUGE match-ups this weekend but there are some real important ones to pay attention too. Like I said earlier, every game is do or die for most of these teams and no team can be taken lightly as evident by this past weekend.
