On This Date in Sports History…The Juice is Loose!

OJ Simpson is more famous because of a double murder he “didn’t commit” than he is for his NFL career. Don’t get me wrong, OJ was great, one of the greatest talents we have ever seen, but most people know him best for that murder case.

On September 16th 1973, before all the bullshit, OJ ran for a then NFL record 250 yards in a 31-13 win over the New England Patriots. OJ ran for 2 TDs that day, one for 80 yards and the other for 22 yards.

OJ was coming off a season in which he led the league in rushing with over 1,250 yards. There was a lot of hype surrounding ‘The Juice’ heading into his 5th NFL season and boy did he deliver. He would go on to break the single season rushing record, rushing for over 2,000 yards in the 1973 season.
